R.I.P Percy Sledge - When a Man Loves a Woman (1966)

The legendary singer Percy Sledge deceased on April 14 2015, the sad story is that he never truly benefited from his music, an another case of white people stealing African sweat and blood, and taking advantage of them not knowing their rights. Le chanteur américain Percy Sledge est décédé mardi dans sa maison de Baton Rouge, en Louisiane à l'âge de 74 ans des suites d'un cancer.

Au cours d'une carrière commencée dans les annnées 60, Percy Sledge avait connu le succès avec un certain nombre de tubes, comme "Take time to know her", "warm and tender love", ou "it tears me up". Mais c'est sa première chanson, "when a man loves a woman", qui a fait de lui une célébrité dont on se souvient encore du nom de nos jours.

Evoquant cette chanson, Percy Sledge avait déclaré dans une interview sur la BBC en 2011 qu'il avait crée la mélodie de "when a man loves a woman", mais avait cédé les droits de la chanson à Calvin Lewis et Andrew Wright parcequ'il ne savait pas qu'il y avait d'autres possibilités.

"J'avais la mélodie dans ma tête, et je leur ai donné la chanson" a t-il dit, ajoutant qu'ils avaient ensuite écrit les paroles. Sledge n'a pas contesté l'accord, mais regrettait d'avoir cédé les droits car il privait ses enfants de tellement de chose qui profitaient à d'autres. Voir le reste de l'Article sur grioo.com
